Fabric Expansion Joints
Fabric expansion joints serve to compensate for deformations occurring in pipelines as a result of temperature, pressure or mechanical vibration. It is important to remember that they are not load-bearing elements, but a flexible connection which additionally limits the spread of noise in the installation. Proper arrangement of fabrics allows for operation of the compensator within a wide range of temperatures (even up to 1000°C) and pressures: -0.2 ÷ 0.4 bar. At present, glass or ceramic materials are used for thermal insulation, which are entirely asbestos-free materials. When working in chemically aggressive media, compensators are additionally strengthened with PTFE foil or Viton rubber. An increasing number of compensators are used in flue gas purification and desulphurization systems. Fabric compensators have found their application in power industry, chemical, petrochemical, paper, cement and food industries. Due to high flexibility, they can transfer and compensate movements in many directions simultaneously. They also allow to maintain high tightness of connection in a wide range of temperatures and media, thanks to impenetrable materials used. Expansion joints may be finished with flanges, have a sleeve structure mounted directly on the cable, or they may be compensator fabrics to be mounted on the cable itself. Expansion joints may have a very diverse structure. We possess appropriate certificates allowing for the use of fabrics in installations where there is an explosion hazard or contact with foodstuffs.
